Gas Fireplace Inserts

Weary of sweeping the soot and ash of your wood-burning fireplace? Alarmed by the amount of wood and coal that your traditional fireplace is guzzling? Are you envious of your neighbor’s new authentic looking gas fireplace that also seems more energy efficient and low maintenance? May be its time for you to go and purchase a gas fireplace insert. Gas inserts allow you to transform your existing wood fireplace – be it factory built and masonry unit – into a gas fireplace. These inserts preserve and enhance the beauty of a traditional fireplace while being more environment friendly, energy efficient and low maintenance than the former. No more of poking the logs or dealing with the cinder - most gas inserts come with a thermostat or a remote.
Typically, inserts are slid into the existing fireplace. All inserts contain a metal box which fits into cavity of the existing fireplace when the insert is installed. The metal box holds the other components of the insert – the decorative gas logs and the natural gas jet. For the gas insert to work, the natural gas jet has to be connected with a gas line. The function of the decorative gas logs is to create a replica of authentic, flickering yellow flames as in a wood based fireplace when the gas insert is switched on. The gas insert also has a blower to ensure an even circulation of warm air and surface heat in the house. A vent that is code approved is run through the existing chimney for fumes that may have emitted due to the working of the gas fireplace. A few models have another vent to let the gas fireplace draw air to aid combustion while others make do with the air circulating within the room. These inserts are available in varied sizes and designs and some stores even offer custom made gas inserts.
