Gas fireplace Logs

Gas logs provide you the allure of a fire - they recreate the look of a roaring fireplace with wood logs and can turn your hearth into the centerpiece of your house. Gas logs are more of a decorative piece and may not prove to be a very good heating solution for your home. If it is heat and warmth that you are looking for minus the hassles of a traditional fireplace, it is best to go for a gas fireplace insert.
There are both vented and vent free gas logs available in the market. Both use natural gas or propane as fuel. Vented gas logs have a yellow flame. Also, like real logs, one can move the position of the logs. The logs are available in various styles and can resemble popular wood logs like oak, hickory and birch. Gas logs can be operated using a remote control or a switch. However, if you want to use your gas logs as a source of heat, go for vent free gas logs. Vent free gas logs have blue flames and have a high energy efficiency rate. They can provide sufficient heat to warm a medium sized room. However, there are controversies around vent free gas logs regarding release of toxic gases like carbon mono-oxide in the room during the combustion process. While the American Gas Association has made it mandate for all vent free gas logs to have oxygen depletion sensors that ensure that the logs don’t work if there are low levels of oxygen in the room, several states in the US do not permit the use of vent free gas logs. It has also been noticed that vent free gas logs increase the humidity of the room. Ensure you purchase the right size of gas logs and get a qualified HVAC contractor to do the installation.
