Electric heat fireplaces - How they work

Fireplaces are commonplace among homes in countries that experience cold winters. Apart from providing warmth throughout the entire household, fireplaces provide a cozy ambience to any room in the house. While many households still have the traditional wood fireplace, there are now a variety of different fireplaces that are available in home depot shops and over the Internet that would provide the same ambiance and warmth with minimal effect on the overall air quality of the room. Such is the case with electric fireplaces.
Electric fireplaces, as the name implies, uses electricity to heat up the room or the entire house. Electric fireplaces are made up of metal coils that gradually heat up once the fireplace is turned on. In order to distribute the heat throughout the room, the electric fireplace has a fan that blows out the heat warming up the entire room. The flames that are seen in electric fireplaces result from light coming from a light bulb that is installed within the electric fireplace. The light coming from this is then refracted in a three dimensional pattern randomly. This provides the illusion that the electric fireplace is being heated through the presence of flames.
There are a number of benefits provided by electric fireplaces that traditional and gas fireplaces cannot provide. For one thing, since electric fireplaces generate heat by using electricity, it is very safe to use around homes, especially if there are little children around. Another benefit is that since there is no burning up of any form of fuel to generate the heat, the air quality within the entire house is not contaminated with carbon monoxide and other harmful fumes. Furthermore, electric fireplaces ensure that 100% of the heat it generates is distributed throughout the entire home. This is a definite plus as compared to gas and wood fireplaces where a portion of the heat generated is lost.
